The Origins of Our Banner
This is the banner representing the Osaka Kita-Umeda Rotary Club.
The background color is indigo, a traditional Japanese blue prepared since ancient times from plant dyes. In dramatic contrast to the subdued tone of the indigo is a plum blossom in pure white, symbolizing the location of our club branch, Kita-Umeda, which literally translates as "north plum fields".
In Japanese culture, plum trees symbolize nobility, refinement, and dignity, and have long been thought to inspire study and the growth of culture. This makes the plum blossom a fitting motif for Umeda, which lies in the very heart of Osaka, a city that aspires to be a major point for international cultural exchange.
The stylized, fan-like plum blossom in the banner concisely expresses the dynamism of this bustling city.
Together, the five petals represent the principal objectives of the Rotary Club: truth, justice, goodwill, friendship, and service.
